And more importantly, how long will they actually be kept? Because isn't that the biggest problem with New Year's resolutions?

In January, you are going strong. By February, you're still kind of committed. But by March and April, the bandwagon is still driving along and you're about 5 miles behind it!
I came across this list of ten resolutions, some common and some uncommon, and have included some ways to make sure they actually survive most, if not all, of 2012.

10. Save more money -- In the hard economic times a little extra money can go a long way. Saving money requires two things – planning and willpower. Figure out how much money each month doesn’t go to necessities, and then take a portion of that, could be five dollars, could be 50 dollars, could be anything you can manage, and put that in a savings account. Put in a little bit each month, and have the willpower to not touch it. It might not end up being thousands of dollars, but it’ll be something for a rainy day.

9. Lose some weight -- Weight loss is probably the most common resolution in history. Shedding anywhere from a couple pounds to a hundred pounds has frustrated people for years. Weight loss for most people doesn’t have to be fast, and doesn’t have to be a lot. If you just want to drop a couple pounds and get in better shape, it’s actually pretty simple with a little patience and a little extra effort. Calorie counting has been a popular method, but calories are only the beginning. Combining smart eating with a little extra exercise can go a long way. Take the stairs, not the elevator. Take a walk around the block after dinner. Just little things that don’t take very long will add up to help burn calories.

8. Quit smoking -- Easily one of the hardest resolutions to keep is quitting smoking. You’re fighting an addiction, which is never easy. Luckily, in today’s world there are literally thousands of methods and resources that one can use in order to kick the habit once and for all. There are medications, patches, gums, strips, you name it, and then there are online resources. The best thing a person can do when trying to quit is give themselves good reasons, and give themselves good support.
7. Read more books -- While it might not be a common resolution, it is one that can help a lot. Reading is beneficial for anyone of any age. It might be hard to find time in a busy schedule for reading, but not as hard as one might think. One way to keep this resolution is to make sure you don’t over-commit. Start small, tell yourself you’ll read one chapter a day to start. Whether that chapter happens on a train, before bed, or on your lunch break, giving yourself a little time to read and escape will do you good.
6. Go green -- This one is probably rising in popularity and for good reason. Going green not only helps the earth, it also can save you some money. Many supermarkets are cutting a couple cents off of your total if you have a re-usable bag. Give it a couple trips and that starts to add up. Re-usable bags are a great way to start, as are re-usable water bottles. Some water faucet filters or filter pitchers come with a re-usable bottle, so kill two birds with one stone and start saving money on those cases of water. Other things you can do include creating a compost heap, recycling if you don’t already, and buying things that come in re-usable or recyclable containers as opposed to things like Styrofoam.
5. Stay informed -- In this era of immediate information it’s surprising how few people actually watch the news and make the effort to stay informed. There are three keys to staying properly in the know. First, watch the news. Second, watch more than one news outlet. Third, watch unbiased news outlets, or at least watch a little bit from every angle. Find as many sources as you can from as many viewpoints as you can, and make informed choices based on all the information you take in.
4. Eat less fast food -- Fast food is unhealthy. There is absolutely no getting around this fact. It’s not going to kill you if you eat it on occasion, but every day is a bit much. Still, so many of us do so because it’s so quick and convenient. But it could be a very beneficial resolution to find ways to get the quick meal without the grease. For quick meals on the go it’s a lot healthier to pack something small at the beginning of the day. Healthy snack bars can be found almost anywhere that sells snacks, and can do a lot to keep an appetite at bay. Salads may not sound filling, but if you pack them full of things like nuts, beans, olives, carrots, cheese, you name it, they can end up being a very satisfying and very healthy alternative to a microwave meal or fast food. Bags full of vegetables in a desk drawer can help you get through the day as well. Taking a little time in the morning to prepare some food for the day ahead can save you money at the fast food place and at the doctor’s office.
3. Manage stress -- Stress is something we all deal with, and something none of us deal with perfectly. There’s not one of us that wouldn’t like to feel less stressed. The question is, how? The fact is, there’s no set way to manage stress; it’s something everybody has to deal with in their own way. But here are some tips to help. Cardio exercise is a good way to relieve stress and help you feel healthier. Exercise will help you feel all around better. Another great way to deal with stress is self-expression. You can choose to write, draw, even dance if you so desire. It doesn’t have to be good; it just has to let you free the thoughts and worries that have been building up. Finding someone to whom you can talk is one of the best ways to help. Don’t be afraid to let yourself confide in someone.
2. Managing debt -- Debt is one of the single most powerful words as far as sending negative feelings through whoever hears it. It cripples some, sends fear through the hearts of others. Managing debt is something most people would like to be able to do, but few are successful with. Paying bills on time and paying as much on the principal as possible is a good way to slowly reduce your debt. There’s no quick and easy way, but with some resolve it’s possible to clear some of your debt. The important thing is to not get overwhelmed, and attack it head on.
1. Be charitable -- This one is easy. Charity has a plethora of benefits, including tax deductions, a sense of pride, and of course the fact that you have just made someone else’s life better. There are literally millions of charities, and a myriad of ways to be charitable. The trick is making charity more than just signing a check every month. Eventually, you’ll stop signing those checks and forget about it. Find something you can get emotionally involved in. Like animals? Look into wildlife conservation groups. Have a soft spot for kids? There are plenty in other countries that could use some support. Find something you can get involved in and stick with it. If it means something to you, then your work for the charity will be that much more rewarding.

Whatever you resolve to do, stick with it, and make 2012 a year to remember. Happy New Year for all of us at Replenish!

Money, money, money! "It's been an exciting time and it's still going, the bar is packed," he said. "We've seen some people coming in to try to rub off some luck on the next drawing."

Carole Everett, spokeswoman for the Maryland Lottery, said Monday evening that the winner of the state's biggest Powerball jackpot still had not come forward. Maryland's state lottery laws allow winners to remain anonymous and claim their prize, Everett said. The laws on publicity differ from state to state.

The undetermined winner will walk away with a hefty sum even if they choose not to take the $125 million in annuity installments. The cash option on the win is $78.9 million, which totals $51.87 million after taxes, Everett said.

The winning number combination was 14, 16, 30, 51, 52 with a Powerball of 19 and a Power Play of x2.

Wesley said an individual spoke to one of his store clerks about 2 p.m. Sunday to ask what the winning numbers were. After going through the sequence, the caller apparently said, "Looks like I am the winner." The caller also added that he would come by Wesley's in a few days after the media attention had subsided.

"All of that is assumption, though, we don't know if that was really the winner or not," Wesley said.

Lottery officials were at the restaurant Monday morning to review security footage to ensure all proper lottery procedures were followed, Everett confirmed. Wesley said that after viewing the footage he saw that he sold the winning random-pick ticket to a man about 3:13 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Wesley added that he typically buys Powerball and Mega Millions tickets after they pass the $50 million threshold, but he forgot to purchase a ticket this time.

When asked if he felt he missed a chance at a huge jackpot, Wesley said no. "That gentleman had fate on his side," he added. "I'm just sad I missed the excitement of even getting to check my ticket. I am glad though, that it has given us a part of history that money can't buy."

For selling the winning ticket, Wesley's Restaurant could receive up to $25,000 from the lottery, but that amount is not official, Wesley said. "Whatever we get we'll put back into the business, because the business is the reason we're getting the money," he added. "It will pay some bills."

While this was the largest payout sold at Wesley's since it opened in 1951, it is not the first time that a large Powerball win came to a player as a Christmas gift. On Dec. 25, 2010, Jeffrey and Christine Pintuff of New York won a $48.8 million jackpot and took home $24.85 million in cash. On Dec. 26, 2010, Rob Anderson of Kentucky won a $128.6 million jackpot and took home $63.45 million in cash.

Everett encouraged all lottery players to check their tickets even if they weren't the big winner, because there are many second-tier prizes also. "We've had about 12 or so second tier winners since the state started Powerball about two years ago," she said.

Powerball tickets are sold in 32 states as well as Washington D.C.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://replenishcosmetic.blogspot.com/2011/12/money-money-money-always-sunny-in-rich.html' title='Money, money, money!

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pPPh-0Pn13Y/Ts035tv_edI/AAAAAAAAACA/e5IStyjc5Zk/s1600/Smith+island+cake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It is inhabited by approximately 300 residents and can only be reached by ferry. In the 1800's, bakers made cakes to be sent with the watermen during the autumn oyster harvest. These cakes had many thin layers that were lined and topped with chocolate fudge instead of traditional buttercream icing, because fudge kept the cakes fresh longer. Thus, the Smith Island Cake was born and has been a fan favorite ever since! In 2008, it was named the State Dessert for the State of Maryland, and in 2009 it was featured in National Geographic's "5 Desserts Worth the Trip" article.

This video features Amber, a baker at the Original Smith Island Cake Co., making a mango/passion fruit Snith Island Cake.

Maybe I'll make one to bring to the in-laws this year! I would have to go out and buy a few more cake pans to make that happen! And if any of you happen to tackle the Smith Island Cake as a holiday baking project remember to bring a piece to your next visit. After a lovely weekend it is always hard to drag yourself back into work on a muggy morning like today. At least we have a short week and a holiday to look forward to!

While in the holiday spirit, I started "googling" Thanksgiving and I thought I would share some interesting facts that I came up with!

THANKSGIVING TRIVIA
Long before the Europeans came to America, the Aztecs domesticated turkeys to use them as food. They also used turkeys for religious sacrifices and their feathers for decoration.

The Wild Turkey was designated the state game bird of Massachusetts on December 23, 1991.
The typical 15-pound turkey is seventy percent white meat and thirty percent dark meat. White meat contains less calories and less fat as compared to dark meat.

The bright red appendage on the neck of the turkey is called a 'wattle'.
When Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin went on the moon, they took 'roasted turkey' and all the trimmings with them.

Benjamin Franklin called the turkey 'a true original native of America'. He wanted the turkey to be the official bird of the United States but it eventually lost out to the bald eagle.

Ok, so we all learned a few things today about the upcoming holiday. Throw out a few of those at the Thanksgiving dinner table and you will WOW your family and friends! Also, remember to tune in later this week for "Balloon Sinuplasty: from the desk of Lanita" part two of our new weekly blog series!!

The Real Deal about Glycolic Peels: from the desk of Regina

The use of glycolic acid peel is not new by any means. People of ancient times used very similar methods to rejuvenate their skin. With the use of this sugar-based acid, the old and damaged top layer of skin is removed to reveal the fresh layer underneath. When this dull top layer is removed, many skin damages are corrected.

As we mature, the rate at which old skin cells are replaced by new, healthier ones slows down dramatically. This leaves a layer of dead cells sitting on top of our skin. It is this layer that causes our skin to appear dull and discolored. It also makes wrinkles and lines appear deeper and sun spots more noticeable.

Well, since I'm sure none of us want to appear wrinkly and spotted; I mean leopard print is in but not on your face!

The question is "What can we do?"

The answer: glycolic peels!

Glycolic acid peels are used to remove the superficial, damaged top layer of skin. When the damaged skin is removed, the new layer that takes its place is healthier, fresher, and has a more even texture and color. As one becomes more accustomed to this type of skin care regimen, the concentration of the acid can be increased, allowing the peel to work deeper into the skin and encouraging the natural production of collagen and elastin in the cells. This will make deeper lines in the face become less visible over time.

When looking at the benefits of glycolic acid peels, the results are very encouraging.

Healthy and glowing skin surfaces

Less acne

Reduction to dark spots and wrinkles

These treatments have been used by skin care experts all over the world due to the great benefits offered with little to no side effects.

So change your skin care regimen! Call today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Martini and see what glycolic peels can do for you!

Monday, Monday

Happy Monday to all! Both men and women can benefit.

Women often have stubborn deposits on the inner and outer thighs, flanks, and abdomen. Spots you may also have difficulty with include "bra bulge" on the back under the bra straps, upper arm bulge, or "muffin tops" over the waist line.

Men can suffer from abdominal deposits, male "breast tissue", "muffin tops", and the "spare tire".

The common thread is the frustration of not being able to lose these spots despite doing everything right. You are not alone: hormonal and metabolic changes may need to be overcome with the sculpting power of direct removal of the offending fat cells.

Liposuction can be beneficial for overall reduction of size or improving one's shape. This can help an individual feel better about themselves and have an improved self image, which can serve as a catalyst for positive lifestyle changes including regular exercise and healthy eating habits.

Different patients can have different goals. The common goal is to benefit from improvements in self image, and feeling better about yourself. We are here to help you achieve your goals.

Welcome

Welcome to The Blog of

Dr. Dave Martini

http://www.replenishcosmetic.blogspot.com/.

Please feel free to follow my blog posts to keep up on the latest in Plastic Surgery!
